The 1993 Organic Building by the Italian born Architect and Designer Gaetano Pesce in Osaka is clad with plant filled pockets. Plants that are planted to show off and present their beauty within a grey intensely built environment. The facade features more than 80 types of indigenous trees and plants that grow inside fiberglass planters. The ‘growing pockets’ extend from the steel encased concrete panels, that cover the three sides of the building. The plants have been carefully chosen in collaboration with Osaka horticulturists and a computer controlled irrigation system makes sure they stay alive!
